years ago this April, Jill Robinson first walked onto a bear bile farm. On that day in April 1993, Jill could have walked away, but she chose to act and do what she could. Today, you also have a choice. If everyone reading this donated just US$20, it would pay for the care of over 150 bears at our China sanctuary for a full year. Please help us celebrate 20 years of progress. Donate US$20 today (or whatever you can afford).
Dr. Dog has been enthusiastically embraced by the local community and is watched over with growing endorsement from a number of medical and health professionals. The programme also enjoys government approval and with over 200 dogs currently making regular visits to 60 different organisations across Hong Kong, our waiting list continues to grow!
Dr. Dog has changed the lives of many people across Hong Kong
From an autistic child who refused to open his heart and talk, to an elderly man with senile dementia, both awakened from their silence by a visit from Dr. Dog.....an excited cry of "dog!" was the first word spoken by both patients.
A call from a dying cancer patient requesting a last visit from Dr. Dog shows how much the visits have come to mean to patients. Dr. Dog was unable to cure her illness, but gently granted a last wish from a dear friend.
The programme's impact is most striking in elderly homes: residents look forward to the visits with great excitement and greet the Dr. Dogs like old friends! Even though many of the elderly are suffering from the effects of senile dementia, they can still remember the names of the dogs and say that Dr. Dogs are like their grandchildren!
Requests for Dr. Dogs to stay overnight are frequent and many people save tidbits from their breakfast to reward the dogs for their comfort and love.
