years ago this April, Jill Robinson first walked onto a bear bile farm. On that day in April 1993, Jill could have walked away, but she chose to act and do what she could. Today, you also have a choice. If everyone reading this donated just US$20, it would pay for the care of over 150 bears at our China sanctuary for a full year. Please help us celebrate 20 years of progress. Donate US$20 today (or whatever you can afford).

Animals Asia continues to expose the appalling animal cruelty behind the circus animal performances in Chinese zoos and safari parks and generate support to end this cruelty. Throughout 2009 and 2010, Animal Welfare Director, David Neale and a team of Chinese investigators have been investigating zoos across China to document the barbaric treatment of animals during these performances and expose the appalling living conditions they are forced to endure.
Tigers and lions with their teeth and claws ripped out, bears with metal rings through their noses, monkeys, wolves, elephants, whales, dolphins and domestic animals beaten and forced into performing humiliating tricks. Bears forced to walk on their back legs, perform acrobatics and “box” each other while being beaten with sticks and punched in appalling scenes of neglect and cruelty. Elephants forced to stand on their heads and walk on their back legs, tigers made to ride on the back of horses, and monkeys forced into riding bicycles are all commonplace at many zoos and safari parks across the country.
Once the performance ends the cruelty continues with animals housed in tiny cages alone and in the dark, with little food and water and made to continue to perfect new tricks. See here for more details of the safari park investigations. OR DOWNLOAD THE full report here.
Animals Asia is pleased to have partnered with the independent production company, Environment Films www.environmentfilms.org, to produce “The Performance”, a powerful and moving film capturing the reality behind the animal performances. Narrated by Terry Waite CBE with music by Moby, this film shows the humiliation of the tricks, the cruel treatment of the animals, and the appalling living conditions these animals have to endure throughout their miserable lives. What is Animals Asia doing to end this cruelty?
This film is an important tool in our campaign to end circus animal performances across China. Animals Asia will;
continue to document and expose this cruelty in China;
support zoos and safari parks in China that have already committed to outlaw such cruel animal performances;
work with the zoo industry globally to generate further support for an end to circus animal performances;
raise awareness of the cruelty and neglect involved within the performance animal industry with people in China through our educational initiatives;
lobby the Chinese government to outlaw the use of wild animals in circus performances.
Animals Asia continues to work towards a day when people in China turn their backs on this barbaric animal cruelty and animals will no longer suffer in the name of entertainment.
How you can help
never visit a circus with live animals – choose non-animal circuses instead;
never visit a zoo or safari park in China that has animal performances;
send the link to the film to your friends and family and make them aware of the barbaric cruelty of animal performances and the work Animals Asia is doing to expose and end such cruelty.
