Rescued bears go wild

21 November 2014

Animals Asia has rescued more than 500 bears from bear bile farms in China and Vietnam. Once rescued their rehabilitation begins in semi-natural enclosures designed to encourage natural behaviours.

For us, one of the greatest indicators of the bears' welfare needs being met is to see them "going wild" just as nature intended.

Moon bears love water – it cools them down, it's a great place for wrestling and it's a whole load of fun as this clip of Georges proves.

Browse is any natural material that the bears can use for nest building, bedding and even eating. Of course, they can get creative with their browse too. We think Holly's new hair style looks great!

Curious animals like bears can't resist looking inside a sack – especially one made of natural fibres like hessian. Iris begins ungracefully by flinging out the contents of this sack and then enjoys getting tangled up in the dried banana leaves inside.

Rain and her sister Nora JamJack are the cutest bear cubs you will ever come across. Whether playing with a cardboard box or enjoying a bubble bath, these two have been melting hearts at our Vietnam sanctuary since 2013.

Bamboo swings are always a hit with moon bears. They wrestle over them, sleep on them and every once in a while seem to get the hang of actually swinging on them.
