 The story behind the CD

Ealier in 2013 we invited UK supporters to submit their original poem about the Moon Bears.

The poems could be joyful, hopeful, passionate, powerful, funny or sad, we were open to all your expressions of creativity and feelings about these beautiful and brave bears.

 We were overwhelmed by the response in both the adult and young people categories. So it was quite a challenge to pick the three top entries in each category for our judges, who were Jill Robinson MBE, actors Rula Lenska, Peter Egan and William Hartston (the opera and poetry editor of the Daily Express).  After much debate the winners were chosen and announced at our 20th Anniversary Gala dinner in June 2013.

The winning entries describe the brutal cruelty suffered by the bears and/or express hopes for a future when all moon bears will free.  This video of Rula reading a poem by supporter Caroline Herd about Dick bear expresses this beautifully. We hope you will enjoy this and help share Dick’s journey.

We decided to produce a limited edition of CDs featuring the winning entries plus a poem written and read by our patron Virginia McKenna OBE and Rula Lenska’s own heartfelt poem.
