Best friends for life

He is willful, naughty and a master at pretending to be deaf. He ignores all attempts at positive reinforcement during training, he professes not to have a clue how to sit, and finds fiendish pleasure in going over, under, or through any door that has the audacity of attempting to hold him in. Leave him for a short while – whether to attend a meeting, or catch up on some bear related business – and his soulful cries can be heard at least halfway around the sanctuary.

The anti-bear farming movement has been moving at such a frantic pace that we can hardly keep track. Across the country, over 1.4 million people have watched the disturbing undercover film of the bears suffering on the farms, and many thousands more are driving a movement calling for the end.

Dieter going all out for the bears

Dieter Häckl, a long-time supporter of Animals Asia will soon be joining over 3,000 triathletes and 600 relay teams to take on the world's largest triathlon, "Challenge Roth" in the town of Roth, Germany. This includes a multitude of challenges - swimming 3.8km in the Main-Donau-Kanal, cycling 180km, and finally running a marathon of 42.2km. Add the heat of the summer temperature in Roth, and you have some idea of the true task that Dieter is taking on.

Had a beautiful message a few days ago from UK artist and all-round thoroughly lovely guy Richard Symonds, who, together with equally lovely sculptor Suzie Marsh, held "Moonstruck" just recently in London where their breathtaking art raised much-needed funds for the bears.

Eye surgeons gives sight back to bears

I was so disappointed to miss our friends ophthalmologists Claudia and David, plus Emily and James from the Animal Health Trust just recently when they joined our teams in both Vietnam and China to help our poorly sighted bears.

Jill's Bio

Jill founded Animals Asia in 1998, after an encounter with a caged bear on a farm in China changed her life forever. She now heads a team of over 300 enthusiastic staff and divides her time between our bear rescue centres in China and Vietnam and our Hong Kong head office. She travels extensively to participate in conferences and speak at fundraising events.
