Jill Robinson faces her fears to help end animal suffering

08 February 2017

Animals Asia founder Jill Robinson and ambassador Peter Egan are set to abseil UK’s highest tower for Asia’s animals.

Animals Asia’s Founder and CEO, Jill Robinson MBE has been fighting to end animal cruelty almost her entire life, and over the last 23 years has helped rescue almost 600 bears from horrific bile farms in Vietnam and China.

Now she is going one step further.

This June 17, Jill and 11 other Animals Asia’s supporters, including the organisation’s UK Ambassador and Downton Abbey star Peter Egan, will abseil from the top of the UK’s highest structure – Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower.

These heroes will dangle 100 metres in the air, buffeted by high winds with just a rope and harness between them and the drop.

Jill said:

“Countless brave supporters over the years have told me they’ve conquered their fears by comparing what they face to the bears we rescue, stuck in bile farm cages for decades on end.  With that in mind, how could I say no? Today, our sanctuaries are full of inspirational bears, and I’ll be thinking of them when I step off the top, trusting in a little good luck, a lot of courage and the rope I’ll be clinging on to.”

Our brave jumpers need your support, please sponsor Jill or Peter to give Asia’s animals a better tomorrow.

As well as rescuing bears from the bile industry, Animals Asia campaigns year round to end the cat and dog meat trade and improve the standard of welfare for captive animals across Asia.

In 2016, the charity’s work enabled Chinese authorities to shut down or stop the sale of dog meat at 78 restaurants after being alerted to illegal practices.

Last year, the NGO also held 25 events across China to educate people about animal cruelty, attended by 15,820 people, while in Vietnam, 20 zoo veterinarians implemented animal welfare practices following Animals Asia workshops.
