Veterinary welfare training

Beginning in March 2024, Animals Asia’s Veterinary Welfare Training Program has completed its inaugural National Pain Management Tour.

Over the past seven months, the team has presented in 13 cities across China – Hangzhou, Shanghai, Suzhou, Xi’an, Kunming, Nanning, Shenzhen, Zhengzhou, Shenyang, Shi Jiazhuang, Jinan, Guiyang and Wuhan.

Training modules included:

  • How to recognize pain
  • The relationship between pain and AFS (anxiety, fear and stress)
  • How to use validated pain scales to assess pain
  • Multi-modal analgesia

Our average audience for each training session was around 105 and we are delighted to see that more and more junior / younger generation vets are paying attention to animal pain and starting to consider the relationship between treatment, pain, and welfare.

Pain Management Summit: Relieving pain, deepening bonds

The 2024 tour was rounded off with a final pain management summit at our China Bear Rescue Centre on 7 September where seven internationally-renowned specialists participated in training for Chinese key opinon leaders. Sponsored by NanNong, BIOALLY and HISUN, three domestic pharmaceutical companies in China, this was a hugely successful undertaking, involving over 60 participants.

Huge thanks to our VWTP team of Mandala (Veterinary Surgeon/Senior Veterinary Trainer), Demi (Veterinary Welfare Training Program Assistant) and Wen Yan (Veterinary Training Manager) who continue to broaden the horizons and enhance veterinary training in China with fresh perspectives on animal welfare.
