This moon bear couple will remind you what love is all about

Moon bears Bonny and Prince remain utterly inseparable 15 years after they were rescued from bile farms.

For moon bears Bonnie and Prince, life after the horror of bear bile farm captivity has been more than they could ever have hoped.

They arrived within a month of each other way back in 2000 and have been a constant source of affection, companionship and happiness ever since.

At the time, both were overcoming an experience we can scarcely imagine. They were found in “squeeze cages” designed to restrict all movement so catheters could be inserted into their abdomens for bile extraction.

Trapped like this they were unable to move for years, so a pipe in their abdomen could siphon off bile for a traditional medicine nobody needs.

Charming Prince is the outgoing bear in this couple – he is constantly curious about human visitors to the sanctuary and will often approach the edge of his enclosure to see who has stopped by.

Bonny on the other hand, is more reserved, seeking comfort in Prince’s confidence. She is besotted with Prince to the point of obsession, always by his side and not so tolerant of others seeking his attention.

Animals Asia’s China Bear and Vet Team Director Nic Field said:

“Bonny and Prince are the most amazing love story – against all the odds. Theirs is a tale of love over adversity that even Hollywood would struggle to come up with. Their dark pasts have been eroded by time and overlaid with the 17 years of happy memories they have shared together. And like all cute old couples they still love having fun in each other’s company.”

Happy #MoonBearMonday everyone!
