North American Volunteer Groups Reached Far and Wide in 2013

16 January 2014

Animals Asia volunteers throughout the US and Canada accomplished a great deal in 2013.

Bev Augustine spent hours in October at the Davis Food Co-op in Davis, CA handing out literature, getting it into the hands of many potential new supporters.

Led by Colleen Burns, our Southwestern Ontario Volunteer Group held two screenings of the Animals Asia documentary “Cages of Shame” and reached more than 1000 people at three major events, the “Saving Lives & Changing Hearts Lecture,” the “Teddy Bear Show,” and the hugely popular “Pawlooza Dog Festival.”

With Melissa Malinowski as their leader, our West Michigan Volunteer Group collected over 800 signatures for a petition opposing bear farming in 2013. The team leafleted at several public events, putting information about Animals Asia programs into the hands and minds of hundreds of people. The group also had the opportunity to spend a day brainstorming in person with Jill Robinson on more ways to help the bears from North America.

Led by Mary Robles, Animals Asia’s Boston Volunteer Group held two screenings of “Cages of Shame” in Massachusetts, at The Somerville Theatre and at the “I <3 Animals Film Festival” in Northampton.  The group hosted tables at two major events: “Pet Rock,” the largest animal welfare expo in New England, which was attended by thousands, and at the “18th Annual Boston Vegetarian Food Festival.” Both organizations donated table space to the group for free. Through their Facebook page and presence at events, the group introduced Animals Asia to over 1,000 new supporters over the course of 2013.

Lisa Vondle, leader of our San Diego Volunteer Group, hosted a “Charity Bazaar to Help Animals” with 75 people in attendance where the group raised $2540. The group also wrapped books for the holidays at their local Barnes & Noble for the seventh year.

A huge thank you to all of our supporters in the United States and Canada, and their amazing work for the animals. If you are interested in volunteering for Animals Asia in North America, please contact Ray Zhu at [email protected].
