"Cages of Shame" US premiere

Event Progress

On April 14, 2012, the beautiful Rubin Museum of Art in New York City played host to the US premiere of the new film Cages of Shame. Written, directed and produced by Australian filmmaker Martin Guinness, Cages of Shame chronicles the dramatic rescue of ten bears from a bile farm in Shandong Province and the harrowing journey they endured before reaching the safety of Animals Asia's China Bear Rescue Center in Chengdu.

Narrated by award-winning American actor Peter Coyote, the film won the coveted ACE Documentary Film Grant from the Humane Society of the United States and will be the subject of additional upcoming screenings in the US, Canada and Australia.

A pre-screening reception complete with fabulous vegan appetizers and wines was the perfect kick-off to an evening that ended with Jill and Ed Young, illustrator of the gorgeous children's book "Moon Bear," signing books for a crowd of supporters who were eager to meet these two humane heroes.

Many thanks to all the staff at the Rubin for organizing such a special event and to our New York supporters for making Jill and the US team feel so very welcome in the Big Apple.
