Broken arm, ruptured tendon but Jill is determined her abseil for animals will go on

28 March 2017

Despite two serious injuries, Animals Asia’s founder Jill Robinson is adamant she will still jump off the UK’s highest tower to raise vital funds.

Jill Robinson has suffered a broken arm followed by a ruptured tendon but will NOT be cancelling an abseil jump for animals any time soon.

Having made the announcement that she and 11 other Animals Asia supporters would abseil from the top of Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower in June, Jill then suffered a fall in the United States and three weeks later a ruptured tendon back at Animals Asia’s headquarters in Hong Kong.

The double dose of bad luck prompted fears that the abseil to raise vital funds that will secure a better future for cats, dogs, bears and other animals in Asia, was in jeopardy.

But Jill has insisted that the show must go on, and after surgery on her tendon last week, doctors have given the go-ahead if she feels she is strong enough.

Animals Asia Founder and CEO, Jill Robinson MBE said:

“The surgery was successful after an incredible surgeon repaired the primary tendon in my thumb rather than doing transfer surgery and ‘borrowing’ a tendon from my index finger.

“Now, the arm will be back in a cast for three weeks and a brace after that. I’ll have absolutely no use of the right hand for goodness knows how long, but doctors say the fracture in my arm is healing nicely. Thankfully I’m dictating emails into my computer - and a few spelling mishaps aside it’s working pretty well.

“If I can avoid another accident – or one of the dogs crashing into me – I should be able to make the jump. As crazy as it sounds, I wouldn’t miss it for the world. So many amazing Animals Asia supporters have done incredible things for us and the moon bears over the years, that I feel I just can’t let anyone down now. Besides, you only have to look at our previously “broken bears” and not be inspired by their determination to live life to the full.”

Jill has said she personally wants to raise £20,000 from the jump – that’s two pounds for each bear still caged in China by the bear bile industry.

The abseil will take place in Portsmouth, UK on June 17 and among the other participants will be Animals Asia’s UK Ambassador and Downton Abbey star Peter Egan.

Jill won’t back down from this jump, just as she won’t give up on ending animal cruelty. Please give today and you can help stop animal cruelty:
