Xin Xin and Nora JamJack never “tyre” of each other

17 October 2016

Bonded by a sad history, rescued moon bears Xin Xin and Nora JamJack have become close friends — no matter where they are.

Bears enjoying new lives at Animals Asia’s Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre can often be seen enjoying each other’s company. They swim together, wrestle and even share bunk beds for warmth, compassion and comfort.

But Xin Xin and Nora JamJack appear to have taken their close relationship to the next level and decided there is no space so small that it can’t accommodate two young moon bears looking to spend a little quality time together.

Nora JamJack and Xinxin share a tyre 2

Animals Asia’s Bear Manager Louise Ellis said:

“It’s beautiful to see these two getting on so well as managing relationships is a big part of sanctuary life. Each bear is an individual and as with humans, not everyone gets on. Luckily for these two, they’ve both found that special someone to share a close moment with.”

Both Xin Xin and Nora JamJack came to Animals Asia as cubs. Both were discovered in separate incidents by Vietnamese authorities as they were being trafficked through the mountainous north.

Their mothers were most likely killed so that they could be sold into a lifetime of suffering on bile farms. Thankfully, the authorities acted and the two cubs were saved.

For bears rescued as cubs in Vietnam, returning to the wild is never an option. With no mother to protect them and teach them how to survive, they stand no chance of survival. Illegal poaching also remains a serious problem.

Thanks to the compassion of Animals Asia supporters, Nora JamJack and Xin Xin are among the hundreds of bears who have avoided this fate and will live out their days surrounded by friends and cared for with love at Animals Asia’s sanctuary.

Happy #MoonBearMonday everyone!
