The five basic needs of cats and dogs

Animals Asia's Professor Paws team were delighted that their promotional film, "Cat and Dog Welfare Around Us" took home a prestigious award voted for by millions in China.

"Cat and Dog Welfare Around Us" was named one of the "Top 10 Charity Videos" by an Internet poll which saw a staggering 6 million votes cast in just two months.

The awareness-raising film – featuring Chinese actress Karen Mok – beat stiff competition from nearly 500 other charity videos, to scoop the award at a ceremony during the third China Charity Fair in Shenzhen.

Irene Feng, Animals Asia's Cat and Dog Welfare Director, said:

"This is a fantastic accomplishment for our team. Not only does the award give our staff the recognition they deserve for their tireless and dedicated work, but dogs and cats are given the perfect platform to show how much we benefit from their companionship and why they deserve our compassion and help. This wonderful award will also help the important messages from the video reach an even wider audience. The whole event is of real benefit to the country and we're proud to be part of it."

How cats and dogs help society

The film explains the basic needs of cats and dogs to ensure their welfare, as well as laying out the steps required to be a responsible owner.

Children are also taught how to behave appropriately around cats and dogs, while also learning to understand their body language.

Animals Asia founder and CEO, Jill Robinson MBE, said:

"The interest and public participation in this prize are simply breath-taking. It's hard to believe that 6 million votes were cast, and we're delighted that the film has been seen by so many people, and will hopefully go on to be seen by a great many more."

Animals Asia's Cat and Dog Welfare teams will continue to use the video during awareness-raising campaigns in schools and communities around China.
