Idyllic footage as rescued bears find sanctuary

18 May 2015

Happy #MoonBearMonday!

Cameras at our Vietnam sanctuary caught an idyllic moment as a group of four bears frolic in the pool on a hot May morning.

The perfect few minutes shows exactly why this rescue centre is called ‘sanctuary’. The bears enjoy absolute peace and serenity in the water, while butterflies can be seen fluttering overhead.

Moon bear Amara happily floating on her back and playing with browse, soon attracts the attention of Elise who comes bounding over to the water’s edge. Each bear stops to greet each other before going back to their business – Elise splashing her paws happily at the waters edge, Amara floating on her back in the middle of the pool.

Meanwhile, Milagro relaxes in the shallows, playfully lapping the water onto his chest as he watches his pals amuse themselves.

For bears rescued from the bear bile industry, this is sanctuary. A paradise found for those whose freedom was taken, their welfare wrecked and their bodies compromised.

While we can enjoy this brief glimpse into the bears’ happy new lives, they live it, each and every long hot summer’s day – every joy filled one helping a horrific past recede a little further into obscurity.

Have a fantastic #MoonBearMonday and a wonderful week.
