Animals Asia Ambassador Maggie Q will be in Hong Kong to head the charity’s gala in aid of Asia’s threatened bears.

On 14 October, Hollywood actress, model and full-time friend of the animals, Maggie Q will be in Hong Kong to shine a light on the cruelty of bear bile farming.

The exclusive gala will feature dinner and entertainment in the company of both Maggie Q and Animals Asia’s Founder and CEO, Jill Robinson MBE, all for the benefit of Asia’s sun and moon bears.

Over 11,000 bears are held in atrocious conditions across Vietnam and China so that their bile can be cruelly extracted for use in traditional medicine.

Maggie Q has long abhorred the trade and in 2009 opened Animals Asia’s Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre, which is now home to nearly 200 rescued bears.

Since then she has continued to be a great friend of the campaign to end bear bile farming.

Animals Asia Founder and CEO, Jill Robinson MBE said:

“It’s going to be a magical night in Hong Kong with animal lovers coming together to highlight not only the cruelty of bear bile farming, but also to celebrate the lives of over 600 bears we have rescued.

“Maggie of course will be the star attraction. She is hugely passionate about animal welfare and is bound to come out fighting for them as she always does.

“I can’t wait to see her again and share the stage with our champion who has done so much for animals around the world.”

Maggie will be taking time out from playing an FBI agent in the hit TV show Designated Survivor to attend the event, with series two of the programme airing at the end of September.

A dedicated animal activist and vegan, Maggie has been a supporter of Animals Asia since 2007 and last visited the sanctuary in 2015 to see her moon bear name-sake, Maggie.

Tickets for Bear Tales, Animals Asia’s Charity Gala 2017 featuring Maggie Q and Jill Robinson on 14 October, are on sale now.
