#Moonbearmonday: moon bear peekaboo!

23 February 2015

Happy #moonbearmonday everyone!

It’s well known that the moon bears at our sanctuaries love playing with each other and can be very sociable. But sometimes their play behaviours can be so human-like that it takes us aback.

On a recent trip to Animals Asia’s Vietnam sanctuary in the foothills of Tam Dao National Park, we caught these two bears apparently expressing behaviours with which we’re all familiar.

Like a cross between school yard favourite, “tig” and nursery classic, “peekaboo” this game made great use of two trees connected together by wooden beams.

Working their way round the structure, the two bears paw, tickle and poke each other – all in the name of good fun.

Animals Asia founder and CEO Jill Robinson MBE said:

“You wouldn’t believe how endlessly rewarding it is to watch rescued moon bears enjoying themselves. They are constantly finding new and ingenious ways to have fun and in doing so they remind us just what intelligent, sentient beings they so obviously are.”

Make you sure you make time for a little fun this #moonbearmonday!
