Elephants are forced to give rides all day. This can harm their feet and cause painful injuries. Some are even hit to make them obey. Big cats like lions and tigers can have their teeth and claws removed so they can’t fight back. Beautiful birds are caught and sold just so people can hear them sing while keeping them in cages.

The conditions in which captive animals are kept often fall far below acceptable welfare standards which causes them to suffer physically and mentally. They often walk in circles, bite the bars of their cages, or even hurt themselves because they are stressed or sad. Many don’t get the medical care they need and live in pain.
