While the dog meetings were going full pelt in South Korea, we were also involved in a press conference in Seoul following months of work and preparation by Toby and our End Bear Bile Farming team.
Last week was a busy time for us in Seoul. Irene Feng (Director Cat and Dog Welfare) and I were thrilled to be able to meet with many passionate leaders of South Korea's animal welfare movement at a conference organised by the fabulous Lola Webber, Founder of Change for Animals Foundation.
Great news for dogs in Asia!
With rabies being such concern in Asia, a ground breaking meeting in Hanoi saw the members of ACPA (Asian Canine Protection Alliance) meeting together with the government authorities of Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos, discussing the dog meat issue and potential rabies implications as a result of cross border trade.
We get all sorts on site in Chengdu, but never did I expect to hear the story that Adina Valentine, one of our wonderful veterinary nurses, would be incubating snakes in her bedroom!
It's been so wonderful to host Animals Asia's French support group on site with the bears in Chengdu.
Apparently this is the first time a competition like this has been held in Vietnam and was organised by the newly formed Love Animals Group.
Our fabulous UK Ambassador, actor Peter Egan, does us proud by saying that his ambassadorial role with Animals Asia is his favourite role to date – and we hope it’ll be his longest role too!
For quite a while we've been talking about the merits of having vegetarian or vegan weeks on site at our sanctuaries in China and Vietnam. We do, of course, have choices of plant-based food for our staff – but we’ve never had a whole week where everyone ate meals without any animal products at all.
After the fabulous experiences in England recently, where so many supporters have been helping our programmes, it’s time to highlight some equally wonderful people and events in Germany.
Thank you all so, so much for the beautiful messages of congratulations and support for our 15th Anniversary on the 8th August. Every message was special, and here, representing them all, was the one received from my beautiful friend, mentor and our UK Patron, Virginia McKenna OBE.
