Willow arrival:
Your ongoing support will help end bear bile farming

Hi there,

Thank you for visiting a zoo or aquarium last year and adding your name to the to the long list of caring people helping to put an end to bear bile farming in China.

The communiqué that you and more than 100,000 others signed, applauds the Chinese Government’s progress on this issue and encourages further action and support for the humane treatment of bears including Animals Asia’s China Bear Rescue – a campaign that aims to save more than 7,000 bears and end the use of bear bile as medicine, replacing it instead with a readily available synthetic alternative.

I want you to know that a representative of the Chinese Government met with Animals Asia’s Founder and CEO, Jill Robinson MBE, in Canberra recently and the boxes of petitions including the one you signed, were personally delivered to the Chinese Embassy in Canberra on February 25th 2009.

Ending bear bile farming, which violates every principle of animal welfare, is strongly supported by Australian and New Zealand zoos and aquaria. The Chinese Government is listening and I am informed that a further 13 bears were recently rescued and transferred to the care of Animals Asia – evidence that your ongoing support makes a real difference.

If you’d like to continue to make a difference to the Moon Bears in China and to animal welfare and conservation, I encourage you to stay involved and informed. Information on the China Bear Rescue is available on the Animals Asia web site – www.animalsasia.org. ARAZPA member zoos and aquariums also remain active in supporting animal welfare and conservation within Australia and internationally.

Thank you for supporting the China Bear Rescue campaign.

Yours faithfully,
