years ago this April, Jill Robinson first walked onto a bear bile farm. On that day in April 1993, Jill could have walked away, but she chose to act and do what she could. Today, you also have a choice. If everyone reading this donated just US$20, it would pay for the care of over 150 bears at our China sanctuary for a full year. Please help us celebrate 20 years of progress. Donate US$20 today (or whatever you can afford).
Thanking the amazing humans behind Dr Dog and Professor Paws
150 volunteers, 70 dogs join Jill at Sai Kung event
23 February, 2013 - Over 150 Dr Dog and Professor Paws volunteers from Hong Kong joined Jill, Dr Eddie and the team at a restaurant in the New Territories to celebrate the start of another year of life-changing visits from canine carers.
Animals Asia’s annual “Meet with Jill” event is our opportunity to thank our incredible human volunteers for all their hard work and devotion over the previous year, and for Jill Robinson, our Founder and CEO, to enjoy an informal catch-up with the volunteers.
The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) has kindly sponsored the event over the past four years in recognition of the contribution of our Dr Dog team to the bank’s “Work-Life Balance Day”, which sees our canine therapists delivering much appreciated stress relief to staff at various branches.
The wonderful In Sai Restaurant in Sai Kung hosted the event, serving up a delicious vegetarian buffet lunch. This was followed by a welcome speech from Jill, who recapped the past year's achievements and shared with volunteers our plans for 2013. She thanked the volunteers for their vital role in the success of our animal therapy programmes.
Throughout the afternoon Animals Asia staff and volunteers relaxed, chatted and enjoyed Bingo, general knowledge quiz games and lucky draws. Sharing in the fun were special guests Dr Paul Wong, Rose Yu and Steven Lai from the University of Hong Kong, teenagers “Ah Kuen” and “Panda” from the Chinese Zion Church Youth Centre, Animals Asia Board Member Anneleise Smillie, and our Managing Director, James Smillie, and Financial Controller, Chris Chiu.
We take our hats off to our two fantastic MCs, Vincent and Esther, and of course a huge thanks to all our amazing volunteers – both human and canine – who are driving the success of Dr Dog and Professor Paws in the Hong Kong community.
