years ago this April, Jill Robinson first walked onto a bear bile farm. On that day in April 1993, Jill could have walked away, but she chose to act and do what she could. Today, you also have a choice. If everyone reading this donated just US$20, it would pay for the care of over 150 bears at our China sanctuary for a full year. Please help us celebrate 20 years of progress. Donate US$20 today (or whatever you can afford).
Huge thanks to Peter Northcote (our newest Animals Asia Ambassador) and Tanti Soemarjono who managed to bring together the incredible line up of musicians, all of whom gave so generously of their time and their talent:
Brydon Stace * Louise Anton * Scotty Aplin * Darryl Beaton * Dario Bortolin * Joseph Calderazzo * Luke Cuerden * Dave Ferry * Lloyd G * Paul Gray * Sarina Jennings * Andre Kaman * Adrian Keating * Barry Leef * Virginia Lillye * Dauno Martinez * Kevin Mendoza * Fab Omodei * Louise Perryman * Bobby Poulton * Nik Pringadi * Victor Rounds * Danny Marx-Young... and of course, the amazing Peter Northcote himself.
The music kicked off at 8.30pm and included such well known classics as Bat Out of Hell, Bohemian Rhapsody, Barracuda, I'll Make You Happy and Kashmir - and they didn't stop playing until almost midnight! Peter showed his own mini-documentary which he made after his trip to the Moon Bear Rescue Centre in Chengdu in July (huge thanks to Cathay Pacific for donating his return flights to Hong Kong). Jill's presentation on the Moon Bear Rescue had a huge impact on the crowd who sat in stunned silence while they listened to the horrors of bear farming followed by stories and images of rescued bears who are now healthy, happy and safe in our care.
Animals Asia Ambassador, Dr Katrina Warren and Jill.
A silent auction which included two beautiful hand made guitars pushed the fundraising total close to $20,000 on the night. Thank you to Matthew Brown from Etherial Guitars and Martin Pratley from Pratley Guitars for their generosity.
A final thank you to everyone who attended this amazing event (all 300 of you!) and to all those who made it happen behind the scenes, including Graham Blizard and the team from Notes at Newtown and to Cobe Design for taking care of all the artwork.
Rumour has it there is already talk of another Bands for Bears next year! (We'll let you know....)
