Star-studded music festival rocks Beijing with moon bear theme
The giant concert banner promotes the moon bear as the central theme of its 2011 festival.
The Midi Music Festival is one of the biggest outdoor rock festivals in China and this year the team behind it worked with Animals Asia to raise awareness of the bear bile industry and lead the call to free the bears.
The rock festival theme is "TAKING ACTION, SAVING MOON BEARS!" and the first concerts took place in Beijing from Apr 30 – May 2 to huge audiences. It is scheduled to play in Shanghai from May 6-8 with total audience estimated at over fifty thousand!

Aside from the thousands of festival-goers who have already received and supported the message, there has been multi-coverage across the Chinese and English language media, further spreading the concert participants’ call to “PROTECT MOON BEARS, BOYCOTT BEAR BILE.”
Together with the famous host Lin Bai, who is one of Animals Asia’s great supporters, Animals Asia created an exhibition area to inform the revellers about the bile industry through text and photos, and in Beijing, our “Moonie” went on the stage to interact with the audience. He received a rousing reception with thousands of people responding with a rallying chant of “Free the Bears!”.

Our huge thanks go out to the organisers, participating bands and performers, and to the thousands of members of the public who turned up, tuned in and opened their hearts and minds to the plight of the moon bears.
