Vehicle exhaust fume gassing of dogs in the Philippines
June 2011
SUCCESS
: We are delighted to announce that following opposition from animal welfare groups internationally, including Animals Asia, the Philippine government have passed a resolution that upholds the deletion of tambucho (vehicle exhaust fume) killing of dogs from the Philippine Administrative Order number 13 on Euthanasia of Animals. Animals Asia provided support for a campaign led by the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) opposing this development. Anna Hashim-Cabrera, Executive Director of PAWS says, "The deletion of this method of killing dogs will spare many thousands of dogs from a painful death. We will continue to assist the government with training and sourcing drugs that will ensure humane deaths for unclaimed stray dogs in our country."
April 2011
In 2010 Animals Asia supported an intensive lobbying campaign by the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) to prevent the use of vehicle fumes as an approved euthanasia method in the Philippines. PAWS have now informed Animals Asia that despite this method being rejected in August 2010 a recent meeting of the Committee on Animal Welfare (CAW) has now approved this method.
Animals Asia believes the use of vehicle exhaust fumes to euthanize animals is inhumane.

Animals Asia statement: Vehicle exhaust gas as a method of euthanasia
We have written to Secretary Proceso J. Alcala from the Department of Agriculture and members of the CAW which have voted in favour of this euthanasia method requesting they rescind their support. Our letter to Secretary Proceso J. Alcala can be found below.
