years ago this April, Jill Robinson first walked onto a bear bile farm. On that day in April 1993, Jill could have walked away, but she chose to act and do what she could. Today, you also have a choice. If everyone reading this donated just US$20, it would pay for the care of over 150 bears at our China sanctuary for a full year. Please help us celebrate 20 years of progress. Donate US$20 today (or whatever you can afford).
February 2012: Animals Asia is aware of the current appalling situation affecting the Wildlife Friends of Thailand ("WFFT") and Elephant Nature Park ("ENP") rescue centres in Thailand, we are in direct contact with WFFT founder Edwin Wiek and we have offered our support to Edwin and the WFFT.
We have initiated a letter, signed by a coalition of 12 international animal protection organisations, to the government of Thailand calling for an immediate end to these raids and for the government to support the vital work of these centres in rescuing animals being traded illegally - a copy of the coalition letter is below. We have thus far not received a response to this letter.
Unfortunately we have no direct government contacts in Thailand and we are therefore powerless to affect the actions of the Department of National Parks ("DNP") as they continue to raid the rescue centres, impound rescued animals and intimidate workers and supporters with armed guards. We continue to contact the Prime Minister, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment and the Director General of the DNP calling for an immediate end to these raids.
How can you help?
We recommend you also write a letter to the Thai ambassador in your country - you can find their address by clicking on this site http://embassy.goabroad.com/embassies-of/thailand - and register your opposition to these actions.
