years ago this April, Jill Robinson first walked onto a bear bile farm. On that day in April 1993, Jill could have walked away, but she chose to act and do what she could. Today, you also have a choice. If everyone reading this donated just US$20, it would pay for the care of over 150 bears at our China sanctuary for a full year. Please help us celebrate 20 years of progress. Donate US$20 today (or whatever you can afford).
UK celebrity and China animal welfare advocates join opposition
Opposition to the Irish Greyhound Board’s plan to develop greyhound racing tracks and to export greyhounds to China continues to grow. In the past week the campaign has gained the support of the UK actor/writer/comedian and animal lover Ricky Gervais and opposition to these plans have developed from within the animal protection movement n China.
Ricky Gervais has backed the 'Greyhound Crusaders' campaign, saying "I am extremely concerned for these dogs, it's bad enough that many Greyhounds are killed and injured through commercial racing in the UK, Ireland and other parts of the world, now the Irish racing industry wants to expand and send Greyhounds to China. I urge the general public and all animal lovers to support the vital campaign to stop Irish Greyhounds being exported to China, they can do this by signing the online petition and writing to the Irish authorities, it is so important that we protect and therefore speak out for these innocent dogs who have no voice of their own".
Animals Asia has asked members of the Chinese Animal Protection movement to oppose these plans and we are delighted by the response. See the letter below sent to the Irish government and the Irish Greyhound Board on behalf of animal protection organisations across China.
