years ago this April, Jill Robinson first walked onto a bear bile farm. On that day in April 1993, Jill could have walked away, but she chose to act and do what she could. Today, you also have a choice. If everyone reading this donated just US$20, it would pay for the care of over 150 bears at our China sanctuary for a full year. Please help us celebrate 20 years of progress. Donate US$20 today (or whatever you can afford).
London support group co-ordinator Maren Dallmann writes about this year's Dragon Boat Race that saw 16 rowers plus the crucial drummer, from across the UK, paddling valiantly in the rain and wind for the animals they care so much about.
"The closer we got to Bristol the wetter and darker it got. Sarah Chilvers, of the Swindon support group, who organised our team again, had alerted us the day before that the festival would be cancelled, if it was too windy, so no news from Sarah on Sunday morning was good news.
By 10am our team was complete and we eagerly awaited our induction on 'dry' land ... We were determined to do better than last year so really gave it our best. Supporter Sue Prince said afterwards that there is always something magical about Animals Asia supporters getting together to do something mad to raise funds. Thatís exactly what it was - a mad and magical day. We all got completely soaked but had a fantastic time and raised a lot of money at the same time.
The last heat was cancelled due to the wind, so we only got to paddle twice but did better than last year and we will do even better next year as the Moon Bear Paddlers team will row again!"
