World Animal Day Report 2010
World Animal Day Celebration and awards ceremony: Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China
Animals Asia Foundation held a successful World Animal Day Ceremony with more than 300 dog owners and 200 dogs on 7 November 2010, in Chengdu. This is the fifth annual WAD ceremony we have held in Chengdu. It was also the biggest event in the 16 cities that held 2010 WAD celebrations around China.
Animals Asia presented awards to 10 responsible pet owners who had entered our “Sharing Love with Them” photo contest. Their lovely stories impressed everyone. We also awarded our excellent Dr Dogs and volunteers who have brought happiness to many people. These awards are our way of saying thanks.
In her welcome speech, Animals Asia vet Monica called on pet owners to be responsible and de-sex their pets – and to care for them their whole lives.
Children from Sheng’ai Special Children’s Center gave a wonderful performance, making this an extra-special day.
Then it was on to a fun game that involved supporters and their dogs walking around the lake to find six secret cards. The winner received a certificate. This journey helped people understand that having a dog to accompany them through life would help them through difficult times.
In the afternoon it was a big and happy get-together for all 200 dogs: there were many dog games, which everyone enjoyed, and we could hear lots of laughter around the venue.
