years ago this April, Jill Robinson first walked onto a bear bile farm. On that day in April 1993, Jill could have walked away, but she chose to act and do what she could. Today, you also have a choice. If everyone reading this donated just US$20, it would pay for the care of over 150 bears at our China sanctuary for a full year. Please help us celebrate 20 years of progress. Donate US$20 today (or whatever you can afford).
Campaign to end use of bear bile in traditional medicine
Joanna Lumley releases statement of support
UK actress, celebrity and activist Joanna Lumley supports our "Healing without harm" campaign.
Animals Asia is very pleased and proud to announce that Joanna Lumley, one of the UK's best-loved and most respected stage and screen actresses, has recently joined our "Healing without harm" campaign.
Possibly best known to a lot of fans for her award-winning role in "Absolutely Fabulous", one of the most successful British comedy series on TV, the renowned political and animal welfare activist has offered her endorsement of this campaign to end the use of all animal parts and by-products in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).
With an enormous following, not only in the UK but also worldwide, Joanna's statement of support will help greatly in raising awareness of the terrible abuse and suffering of bears throughout Asia.
"Animals Asia supports the use of traditional medicines globally, but only those containing no animal parts or endangered plants. No one is going to die for the lack of bear bile - in fact those taking it may be putting their lives at risk. Bile from bears farmed in such barbaric conditions is contaminated with pus, faeces and blood and many of the bears are suffering from liver cancers caused by the extraction methods. With so many herbal and synthetic alternatives, why would anyone take the risk?
Join me in supporting Animals Asia's "Healing without harm" campaign and their work to end the torture of farmed bears Asia-wide."
Thank you Joanna for this powerful statement of support, for raising the profile of our campaign and for helping to free more bears from a life of pain.
