years ago this April, Jill Robinson first walked onto a bear bile farm. On that day in April 1993, Jill could have walked away, but she chose to act and do what she could. Today, you also have a choice. If everyone reading this donated just US$20, it would pay for the care of over 150 bears at our China sanctuary for a full year. Please help us celebrate 20 years of progress. Donate US$20 today (or whatever you can afford).
Animals Asia's dog-bite prevention leaflet is being distributed far and wide
Our Dr. Dog team in China is also working hard on numerous community education initiatives to promote responsible pet ownership and safety around dogs.
Already over 110,000 Basic Pet Care leaflets have been distributed to local animal welfare groups throughout China and our brand new dog-bite prevention leaflet is the first of its kind for China! As more and more people keep dogs as pets, it is increasingly important to ensure that dogs and people can live together in harmony. The leaflet outlines simple rules for both dog owners and non-dog owners to follow (complete with illustrations to help understand a dog's body language), which will help to greatly reduce the number of dog bites by teaching people how to behave around dogs in different situations.
In conjunction with six local animal welfare groups in Guangzhou ("Private Pet Home", "Chinese Companion Animals Protection Network", "Guangzhou Xixi Cat Website", "Guangzhou Home for Stray Animals" and "Love Pet Union") we held our first community education road show on the 25th November 2006. The aim of the event was to promote our educational materials to the public and call on pet-owners to raise their pets in a civilised way, whilst encouraging people to treat all animals with care and respect. The response from the public was excellent - especially with our fabulous Dr. Dogs proving just how gentle even big dogs can be and the event was covered by 8 different newspapers and TV stations!
In addition to developing relationships with local animal welfare groups, we have also set up a partnership with Dr. John Wu and his "Leader Animal Veterinary Clinic" in Guangzhou. Dr. Wu has kindly agreed to provide free health checks for all Dr. Dogs, whilst helping to promote the programme and our basic pet care leaflets to all clients.
