When Karen Mok made contact with us some years ago because she had been so moved by the plight of the bears and wanted to help, we were very grateful and touched by her generosity. However, little did we know that, in fact we would not only be getting Karen’s support, but also getting the support of her wonderful family!
Since then, Karen has given her time to make a Community Service Announcement for worldwide distribution, donated the proceeds from a massive, sell-out concert, visited the centre on several occasions to raise our profile, made personal donations – the list goes on – and she is always willing to do more.
Her mother, Eleanor, works tirelessly for the bears, drumming up support and donations from all quarters and we have been proud to make her an Animals Asia Honorary Director; her brother Trevor helped with the design of the gorgeous “Moon Bear” watch that Karen produced in conjunction with Swiss watchmaker Movado; and Karen’s father, Alan, even produced a delightful cookbook of recipes for his favourite soups – entitled “Nutritious Soups for my Dearest Karen”, with all proceeds going to our bears.
Last year, Karen made a wonderful gesture for her father’s 70th birthday, by matching his years with a donation of HK$70,000. And most recently, she and Trevor have made a similar donation, this time in honour of their parents’ 45th Wedding Anniversary.
As Karen’s hectic schedule didn’t allow her to present us with the cheque in person, Eleanor graciously came along to our Hong Kong office to meet with Jill and do so in her place.
We cannot thank Karen and her family enough for all their help and constant support of the Moon Bear Rescue – their generosity of spirit is an inspiration.
We would also like to take this opportunity to wish Eleanor and Alan a very happy wedding anniversary from Jill and all the Animals Asia team!
