years ago this April, Jill Robinson first walked onto a bear bile farm. On that day in April 1993, Jill could have walked away, but she chose to act and do what she could. Today, you also have a choice. If everyone reading this donated just US$20, it would pay for the care of over 150 bears at our China sanctuary for a full year. Please help us celebrate 20 years of progress. Donate US$20 today (or whatever you can afford).
Jane Krumnow von Sponneck, an extremely talented artist, painted 4 delightful bear watercolour pictures and had them printed into Christmas cards. She sold the originals and cards to friends, netting an incredible Euro 8.859. We hope to sell the cards to our German supporters this year.
Andrea Haufe, beloved friend of the bears, initiated numerous activities for the bears, including spreading the news about the rescue to schools. Together with Brigitte and Christian Trogus she organised collections during Christmas Markets and town festivals. They and other friends showed the sporty side of the AAF by taking part in the “Freiburg Marathon” as AAF-runners and collected more than Euro 500 for the bears by selling bear articles at the information booth!
Kalina and Frank Duval learnt about AAF from the article in “Stern” in 2000 and were horrified by the suffering of the bears. They responded immediately with great generosity by establishing the first office for AAF in Germany. Our heartfelt thanks to Hanni and Thomas Bévand as well as to Renate Klett and all their friends, who did their part to start up the successful story of AAF in Germany.
Uli Stein, well-known cartoonist with a wonderful sense of humour, helped spread the message of AAF in Germany. Thank you, Uli!
Dieter Häckel works tirelessly all year round. He mans information booths regularly at his home town festivals with friends and family and constantly initiates other projects for the bears. The fruits of his labour culminated in the sponsorship of “Babu”, named after the founder of his home town. Big bear hugs, Dieter, from “Babu”!
The “Heeresmusikkorps 1” is an orchestra with musicians from the German Army. Producing marvellous music, they give concerts for charity organisations and projects. At the beginning of 2004 the leader of the Heeresmusikkorps 1, Stefan Szepansky, started a special project to help the bears. He persuaded the organisations his orchestra was going to play for to donate one Euro for each ticket sold to AAF. So far, AAF has received over Euro 2.700 form these concerts and more is still to come!
Astrid Eden, from the far north of Germany, represents the numerous bear supporters in all parts of Germany, who have given their best to help in any way they can. Astrid’s activities typify the efforts of the others; her presence at flea markets almost every weekend, auctioning off every imaginable object in ebay (even a wheelchair – Heaven knows where she got it from!) and donating all the proceeds to her beloved bears!
Our special thanks go to Karl Bernauer, baker in Wilhelmsfeld, who whipped up a new bread recipe, (Bear Bread) and is donating the proceeds from its sales to AAF! Those who have tried it love this hearty, delicious bread.
.....and so the list of wonderful people who are helping the bears goes on: André Frank, musician from Berlin, is organising a concert for AAF this autumn. Andreas Goldschmidt, who produced a CD with the wonderful song “Walk with the Bears”. Jacqueline Sander and Helga Witzel in Switzerland, true supporters, are organising a Golf tournament for AAF in Zuerich this summer. Wilhelm Notz is organizing a Golf tournament for AAF in Bavaria. To Yvette Ditscher and friends who auction teddy bears in ebay and to Sylvia Kelly - A huge “Thank you” to all our supporters!
