On New Year's Eve 2008 pregnant Twizzle, along with 148 other sick and badly injured dogs, was heading for a live animal market - and ultimately the stockpot, when the truck she was on was intercepted and the dogs rescued by the Qi Ming dog rescue centre. We'd helped Qi Ming earlier in the year with the canine victims of the Sichuan earthquake, and they asked us to provide emergency veterinary assistance with this rescue.
Helena Molloy was one of our volunteer vet nurses who helped with this rescue and nursed Twizzle back to health. It wasn't long before Twizzle captured her heart. This is a film of their story.
This is a story with a happy ending but there are a few clips that you may find distressing, we've put a warning in the film to let you know when these clips appear.
What can I do to help? Support from caring people like you can help Animals Asia’s work, in partnership with animal lovers across China, to change people’s perceptions of dogs and cats, showing them as our loyal, loving companions.
Two ways you can help:
1. Make a small text donation today UK donors can text Woof37 £3 to 70070 to help us to help us make a difference for dogs like Twizzle in China.
2. Become a Champion for Change The aim of our “Champion for Change” monthly donation programme is to affect long term change from within China and eventually end the torture and killing of dogs and cats for food. Attitudes are changing rapidly now in China as more and more people welcome companion animals into their homes and become aware of animal welfare.
Your donation will help us support and work with local animal welfare groups such as Qi Meng, communities and local authorities in changing long-held attitudes and empowering people to affect change and stop the brutal treatment of dogs and cats.
Our education and outreach projects include Dr. Dog – animal therapy dogs who visit people in need in hospitals, schools and orphanages and Professor Paws – tail wagging professors who teach underprivileged children English while instilling love and respect of animals.
Your ongoing support of £3 a month or more as a “Champion for Change” will help us to keep the momentum going through these ever expanding projects. To find out more click here.
