years ago this April, Jill Robinson first walked onto a bear bile farm. On that day in April 1993, Jill could have walked away, but she chose to act and do what she could. Today, you also have a choice. If everyone reading this donated just US$20, it would pay for the care of over 150 bears at our China sanctuary for a full year. Please help us celebrate 20 years of progress. Donate US$20 today (or whatever you can afford).
Katrina Warren's beautifully painted dog bowl was a popular auction item.
Chris Brown took a more whimsical approach to create another unique bowl
There wasn't a dry eye in the house when Christie Yang, Animals Asia’s China Relations Director, spoke at Melbourne's Gallery Gabrielle Pizzi on Thursday, 4 June.
Christie spoke passionately about sparing China's dogs and cats from the misery of slaughter for the dinner table and freeing bears from their chambers of horror on bear farms. The captive crowd of about 100 supporters snapped up copies of our Freedom Moon coffee table book to help spread the word about the cause.
The previous day Christie spoke to interested members of the Victorian Parliament about the mission of Animals Asia and the work which is done behind the scenes with the Chinese Government to improve conditions for all animals in China. A huge thank you to Greens MLC, Sue Pennicuik for inviting us to Parliament and for her ongoing support of our work.
Next stop was Sydney where Christie met officials at the Chinese Consulate to re-emphasize our determination to end bear farming. The meeting was positive with the Deputy Consul congratulating us on our work and offering words of support.
The following evening, Clover Moore, MP and Lord Mayor of Sydney showed her support by opening an art show at Red Lips Studio Gallery in Leichhardt. Clover Moore is a recent convert to the Animals Asia cause and a valuable asset to us. As an MP she is committed to improving the welfare of animals in NSW. Thank you to Rae and Thomas Heint for opening their gallery to us and being such generous hosts. Thanks also go to all the talented artists who donated works for auction, including some wonderful celebrities who picked up paint brushes to decorate a very appropriate medium for the night – dog bowls!
Christie had the full attention of the room as she spoke about the challenges facing Animals Asia and provided insights into our work from a Chinese perspective.
These two events raised almost $12,000 all of which will go directly to supporting the moon bear rescue.
