years ago this April, Jill Robinson first walked onto a bear bile farm. On that day in April 1993, Jill could have walked away, but she chose to act and do what she could. Today, you also have a choice. If everyone reading this donated just US$20, it would pay for the care of over 150 bears at our China sanctuary for a full year. Please help us celebrate 20 years of progress. Donate US$20 today (or whatever you can afford).
Boris Chiao is the first Hong Kong-born generation from his family who left China in the early 1950's. Influenced by his father's love of animals and nature from an early age, Boris has nurtured a deep respect for all the world's species and an ongoing desire to improve the lives of people and animals.
Raised in Hong Kong, educated in England and lived in the United States; these have all given Boris a broad insight and understanding of the fine balance between the cultures. Additionally, his fluency in three languages, together with shrewd management skills, have allowed him to successfully coordinate investigative and technical animal welfare programs throughout the Asia region.
Boris oversees the construction and development of the Animals Asia Moon Bear Rescue Centre, sanctuary and education centre, where over 184 bears have been rescued from cruel bear bile farms. Working with a Hong Kong Architect and site experts from around Asia, Boris and his team have created roomy bear dens complete with hanging basket beds, outside Rehabilitation enclosures and bamboo forest zones, quarantine and holding areas, waste water treatment facilities, on site Veterinary staff and bear carers accommodation, and individiual areas for "special care bears" who are unable to be integrated into large groups. As the Sanctuary rapidly expands to accomodate a growing number of rescued bears Boris has his work cut out for him over the months and years ahead!
