2011 Event details
Animals Asia Walk for Harmony is a fundraising event for our Dr Dog and Professor Paws programmes. On the morning of Sunday, 4 December 2011, Animals Asia therapy dogs will join mentally challenged and visually impaired children from those organisations served by Dr Dog, as well as the general public, to walk for harmony.
Together, people and dogs, will start at Lugard Road on the Peak, and walk along the Hong Kong Trail to promote a message of love between humans and animals.
Walk for Harmony Date: Sunday, 4 December, 2011 Venue: Hong Kong Trail, Lugard Road, The Peak, Hong Kong Time: 10am to 12noon Fee: $200 minimum donation (payable by cheque, credit card)
Animals Asia invites the public to join the walk, either as a participant or sponsor. All funds raised by the Animals Asia Walk for Harmony will be used to continue and expand the work of our Dr Dog and Professor Paws programmes within the Hong Kong community.
Celebrating 20 years of Dr Dog Jill Robinson, founder and CEO of Animals Asia, pioneered the concept of animal therapy in Hong Kong back in 1991, when the Duchess of Kent Children’s Hospital agreed to allow her to bring “one dog, to spend one hour, in the garden”. This innovative programme has been operating now for 20 years, and today sees over 350 “dog doctors” visiting hospitals, homes for the elderly, disabled centres and orphanages across Hong Kong, mainland China, the Philippines, Japan, India, Taiwan and Malaysia, spreading warmth to people in need, while highlighting the positive role that companion animals can play in society.
Our volunteer dogs also take on the role of teachers in our “Professor Paws” project, which encourages children to care for animals. Professor Paws has been operating in Hong Kong schools since 2004 and we run a Chinese-language version of Professor Paws in the cities of Guangzhou and Chengdu in China.
