years ago this April, Jill Robinson first walked onto a bear bile farm. On that day in April 1993, Jill could have walked away, but she chose to act and do what she could. Today, you also have a choice. If everyone reading this donated just US$20, it would pay for the care of over 150 bears at our China sanctuary for a full year. Please help us celebrate 20 years of progress. Donate US$20 today (or whatever you can afford).
"Here I am with Jill and the lucky winner of the Woman's Day competition, Annie Ditton, who chose the name "Mani" for the Woman's Day bear. "Mani" means jewel of compassion in Buddhist"
Dr. Katrina recently spent a week in Chengdu with us. Katrina describes how she felt in her own words:
"This was my second visit to the sanctuary and it is always an emotional timeľ on one hand you see evidence of cruelty to animals that you would not think possible. To witness first hand, the injuries sustained by these gorgeous creatures at the hands of human beings is truly depressing. But on the other hand, I see humans at their best-the staff at Animals Asia Foundation are among the most caring, passionate people I have ever met- their lives devoted to one common goal, not just to end bear bile farming for ever but also to let the magnificent creatures who reside at the sanctuary live the rest of their days in peace with the dignity they deserve.
What is probably the most remarkable thing at the sanctuary is the spirit of the bears. These grand creatures have endured so much pain and torture and many of them are disabled as a result of injuries sustained....but yet at the sanctuary they seem so calm and peaceful. Each bear has its own unique story and its own personality. To me it is like they know they have been given a second chance at life".
"P.S. The trip was the prize for a competition run by Woman's Day which raised an amazing $16,000 for the bears. Special thanks to Woman's Day and to Cathay Pacific, Dragonair, Conrad Hong Kong and Hotel Kempinski Chengdu for generously donating the prize of five nights in Hong Kong and Chengdu."
