years ago this April, Jill Robinson first walked onto a bear bile farm. On that day in April 1993, Jill could have walked away, but she chose to act and do what she could. Today, you also have a choice. If everyone reading this donated just US$20, it would pay for the care of over 150 bears at our China sanctuary for a full year. Please help us celebrate 20 years of progress. Donate US$20 today (or whatever you can afford).
Guangzhou team attends summer camp and information session
In July 2009, Irene Feng from our Guangzhou office was invited to give an Animals Asia presentation to a mixed group of local and international students at summer camp in China.
Organised by Concordia Welfare and Education Foundation(协同福利及教育基金会） in Deqing (德庆), the group was made up of about 100 local high-school students and 30 international school students from Hong Kong and the United States.
Irene gave a presentation on the Moon Bear Rescue, showing the students our own DVD, “Moon Bear Rescue – the Beginning” and also spoke about our work for companion animals in Asia.
Local and overseas students watch film of the Moon Bear Rescue.
After the presentation the students broke into groups to discuss both issues and later presented their ideas on their own future action to help the bears and dogs and cats in China.
Children’s organisation teaches Dr Dog volunteers about its work
Our Guangzhou volunteers, who are invaluable to our Dr Dog and Professor Paws programmes, took time out this week to learn about the children they have recently started visiting.
The Guangzhou Infantile Autism Kids School presented a talk to the group to increase their knowledge about infantile autism. This was a great opportunity for the volunteers, who welcomed the chance to be even more effective when they bring our very popular Dr Dogs to visit the kids.
These events are examples of how our hard-working team in Guangzhou continues to expand its reach while developing closer ties in the local community through our Dr Dog and Professor Paws programmes.
Students were inventive and enthusiastic about their animal welfare project.
The mistreatment of dogs and cats in China was high on the students' agenda.
