years ago this April, Jill Robinson first walked onto a bear bile farm. On that day in April 1993, Jill could have walked away, but she chose to act and do what she could. Today, you also have a choice. If everyone reading this donated just US$20, it would pay for the care of over 150 bears at our China sanctuary for a full year. Please help us celebrate 20 years of progress. Donate US$20 today (or whatever you can afford).
Moon Bear Marathon No 6 - A Big Step for the Bears
The walk will centre on Lake Burley Griffin and participants are invited to walk at their own pace or in a group (whose pace will accommodate all) around all or part of the lake. Those completing the whole walk will cover 30 km but those wanting to do shorter distances will be, prior to the event, made aware of the many convenient starting and stopping access points.
Entry is by tax deductible donation to the bears ($25) and walkers are encouraged to obtain sponsorship which is also tax deductible for sponsors. For each $25 in sponsorship obtained walkers will receive one ticket in a mystery prize draw which will be conducted at the conclusion of the event. Sponsorship sheets will be provided upon registration.
The walk will commence at 9.00am at Reconciliation Place at the lakeshore and travel west on the bike path towards Scrivener dam. The whole walk should take about 7.5 hours. Morning tea will be provided at the 13km point at Black Mountain peninsula. We plan to have lunch in the park on the lakeshore opposite Duntroon (23km).
Walkers are advised to bring lunch, snacks, drinks, a hat, umbrella and sunscreen.
