years ago this April, Jill Robinson first walked onto a bear bile farm. On that day in April 1993, Jill could have walked away, but she chose to act and do what she could. Today, you also have a choice. If everyone reading this donated just US$20, it would pay for the care of over 150 bears at our China sanctuary for a full year. Please help us celebrate 20 years of progress. Donate US$20 today (or whatever you can afford).
Volunteering at Animals Asia Moon Bear Rescue Centres
What it's like to volunteer
At present, we can only accept qualified professionals as volunteers at rescue centre in Chengdu, Sichuan province, China. Because the Vietnam Rescue Centre is still under construction and accommodation is limited, we do not run a volunteer programme in Vietnam at this time.
The Moon Bear Rescue Centre in Chengdu has rescued over 270 bears from cruel bile farms. These bears are rehabilitated and released into semi-natural enclosures and will live out the rest of their lives in peace and without fear. The centre also cares for a pair of macaques and almost a dozen cats and dogs!
The rescue centre is in a rural area about an hour's drive from the city of Chengdu. Volunteers spend most of their time at the centre. Those accepted as volunteers will be provided with shared accommodation, meals on-site and transportation between Chengdu International Airport and the Moon Bear Rescue Centre. Accommodation is on-site and limited, so sharing rooms is generally necessary. Meals are provided in our canteen and they are Sichuan-style Chinese food so can sometimes be spicy. Vegetarian food is always available.
