years ago this April, Jill Robinson first walked onto a bear bile farm. On that day in April 1993, Jill could have walked away, but she chose to act and do what she could. Today, you also have a choice. If everyone reading this donated just US$20, it would pay for the care of over 150 bears at our China sanctuary for a full year. Please help us celebrate 20 years of progress. Donate US$20 today (or whatever you can afford).
Karen's Support for the Bears inspires a Movado Swiss Watch!
The world's first "Moon Bear" watch is born!
Newspaper article: Karen promotes the Movado "Moon Bear" watch!
One of Karen’s celebrity endorsements is for Movado – the makers of fabulous and sophisticated Swiss watches. Karen’s support of the China Bear Rescue has inspired Movado to produce a beautiful, specially designed, limited edition “Moon Bear” watch!
The watch has three different styles: plain stainless steel, diamonds on the bezel, diamonds on the bezel and the bracelet. It has a crescent-shaped chain with an intricate clasp composed of polished C-links, reminiscent of a jewelled, silvery bracelet of “new moons”. The back of the case is engraved with the ancient Chinese character for “bear”, which was specially designed by Trevor, Karen’s brother.
The Movado Moon Bear watch is limited to only 1,000 pieces. Movado will donate a percentage of the sales of every watch to Animals Asia and the 10 limited edition pieces are being sold privately. The watch was launched at the Moon Bear Rescue Centre in Chengdu where Karen Mok spent the day with Jill, the bears, the Animals Asia team and a TV crew. An incredible amount of publicity for the China Bear Rescue is being generated across China as Movado and Karen publicise the watch, both through TV and print media. Displays of Karen with the bears are found in all major watch retailers in China - spreading the word of the rescue, inspiring respect for animals and encouraging an end to bear farming. The watches are selling extremely well and feedback on the response from the public is very positive!
On 22 January 2005, Managing Director of Movado Asia Pacific, Roland Macek, presented Animals Asia Foundation with a cheque for an amazing HK$300,000 (US$38,500)! Heartfelt thanks to Karen and Roland and Movado for helping the bears!!
