It’s not often that we have good news on the welfare of dogs in Asia, but now and then something comes up that we just have to share, and this is the story of a dog rescued from slaughter in the Philippines last year.
“Adonis” was one of eight dogs placed in the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) animal shelter for rehabilitation, having being saved from death by the action of Humane Society International, who seized a truck-load of dogs bound for the slaughterhouse. Soon after adoption, Adonis was put forward by his new owner to become a volunteer “Doctor” with PAWS, who co-ordinate Animals Asia’s Dr. Dog programme in the Philippines. He is now a favourite Dr. Dog making his rounds in pediatric cancer wards! Read the full story here.
Although we were disappointed to have to cancel our Hong Kong World Animal Day event because of bad weather, we are really delighted to let you know how things went elsewhere. Furry Friends Farm, who co-ordinate Animal Asia’s Dr. Dog programme in Malaysia hosted a hugely successful fun day and dog walk. Sabrina Yeap from Furry Friends, tells us how it went here.
Animals Asia turned ten on 8.8.08! To you all, directors, staff, volunteers and amazing supporters across the globe – a huge and heartfelt thank you for this past decade of hope. For helping Animals Asia keep our promises to the animals across the Asia continent, bringing them rescue and sanctuary and for helping us to keep our most important core promise of restoring respect to them all. Our history of celebration will go up on the website early next week so please do take a look.
From the animals, thank you for this past decade – and please do find time to raise a glass and a smile of pride to yourselves for being part of the Animals Asia family and part of the positive change for animals everywhere.
