HELP TO SET THEM FREE

First of all the bears have to be set free. To support the China Bear Rescue you could write a letter or organize a petition.

1. Write a personal letter

Write a polite letter or draw a picture illustrating your wishes that the President of the Chinese Government helps to improve the lives of the Moon Bears. Thank him for releasing the first 500 bears. Ask him to make sure that all the bear farms are closed and that the released bears get the help they need to recover. Tell him that you know that bear bile can be replaced, for example by other extracts from herbs and plants, and that bile should not be used in products that have nothing to do with Traditional Chinese Medicine. Write that these animals need his protection and that you would like to hear back from him about what he will do to help the Moon Bears.

2. Organize a campaign and write a petition

A campaign is helpful to spread the word and to get more people involved. You could ask your teacher if she or he is willing to start a campaign in the school. If you decide to do a campaign in your school you need to inform the whole school. It helps to draw posters and to mount them around the schoolyard. Create flyers and make an announcement to the whole school. Maybe you could also invite the parents and neighbors.
Prepare a petition that people can sign. The more signatures you get, the more impressive the petition looks. A petition is an official letter that you write to the Chinese Government. You can use the ideas from the personal letter above. But remember an official letter has to be typed and there should be no typos.

Address the letter and the sheets with the signatures to the address above.

When the bears are set free they need:

Animal doctors (veterinary care) to treat their wounds and remove the tubes (catheters)

Climbing frames and swimming pools so they can exercise and rebuild their muscles

Hanging baskets secured to the wall in their dens give them luxurious comfort, warmth and their own space

Delicious and nutritious food

Toys to enrich their new lives of freedom

Honey, raisins and other treats to show them that life (for them) can be sweet

The China Bear Rescue needs money to help the bears. Both small or bigger amounts of money can help them. For example you could donate $12 which would pay a bear's meals for one week or you could give them one pot of Honey for $5. Maybe you would like to raise more money and help a bear to get veterinary care for $100. In this case you might need to ask some people for a donation. Here are some ideas for you:

Organize a campaign in school (See above!) and collect money.

Organize a market:

Craft objects (paper machè bears, print gift wrap paper with bears) and sell them.

Collect things you don't need anymore (books, games) and sell them.

Hold a raffle.

Have a cake stall.

Organise a sponsored walk.

Think about your own ideas!

You could write letters to people you know explaining to them why it is necessary to rescue the bears and how they can help by donating money.

Check schools to learn what else you can do to help animals with changes you can make in your everyday live.

You can help to make a better world for people and wildlife! As a young person you have time, energy and technology on your side! Here are some ways YOU can make a difference in your community:

Help develop a flower garden for the butterflies and hummingbirds, put up bird boxes and feeders, and plant trees.

Join an organization which is working on conservation projects.

Pick up litter. Not only does it help the land but it can save the lives of bears and other wildlife who may be lured by garbage to roads and neighborhoods.

Recycle, reuse, and reduce wastes to save resources. This will save valuable land for wildlife and people.

Ask your teacher if your class can learn about bears and wildlife and what people can do to peacefully coexist with wildlife.
